This substantial black obsidian nodule weighs 1.85 kg (approximately 1.8 lbs) and presents mirror-quality polish across a complex, lobed surface morphology. Deep black volcanic glass is interrupted by striking golden-brown translucent flow-banding zones that catch light from within, revealing the stone's true character as a geological record of rapid magma cooling.

Obsidian forms when silica-rich lava solidifies so quickly that no crystalline structure develops — the result is a naturally amorphous volcanic glass. The conchoidal fracture surfaces visible on this specimen are the same feature that made obsidian a prized tool-making material for thousands of years.
